If you want excellent hormone health, brain health and optimal weight regulation, then excellent nutrition is a MUST.
Blood sugar imbalances significantly disrupt hormones, leading to various symptoms due to the close connection between glucose control and hormone production.
Here’s WHY:
1. Insulin and Glucose Regulation
Here´s the thing when we consume carbohydrates, our body converts them into glucose, prompting insulin release. Insulin helps glucose enter cells for energy or storage.
– High Blood Sugar, high levels of glucose cause insulin resistance, disrupting hormones, particularly those tied to reproductive health, such as in PCOS.
– Low Blood Sugar, when this drops it will trigger cortisol and adrenaline release, stressing the adrenal glands and causing fatigue, anxiety, and further hormonal imbalance.
2. Cortisol and Blood Sugar
Cortisol regulates blood sugar, increasing glucose availability during stress or low levels.
– Chronic High Cortisol, when we experience prolonged stress, this elevates cortisol, leading to weight gain, sleep issues, mood swings, and menstrual problems.
– Adrenal Fatigue Over time, cortisol demand exhausts the adrenal glands, leading to chronic fatigue and imbalances in thyroid and sex hormones.
3. Sex Hormones and Blood Sugar
Insulin and cortisol fluctuations directly affect sex hormones.
– In Women, insulin resistance and high cortisol raise testosterone levels, causing irregular periods, acne, and fertility issues, often linked to PCOS.
– In Men, blood sugar imbalances can lower testosterone, resulting in low libido, fatigue, and muscle loss.
4. Thyroid Health
Blood sugar imbalances affect thyroid hormones by reducing the availability of T3, the active thyroid hormone, causing symptoms like weight gain, low energy, and depression.
5. Appetite Control and Weight
Leptin and ghrelin, the hormones regulating hunger and fullness, are impacted by blood sugar levels. Dysregulation can cause leptin resistance, leading to overeating and weight gain.
6. Menstrual Health and Fertility
Fluctuating blood sugar levels can disrupt the hormonal balance needed for a regular menstrual cycle, causing irregular periods and fertility problems.
Stable blood sugar is essential for hormonal balance. Managing blood sugar through a healthy diet, exercise, and stress control supports overall hormonal health.
