You have probably heard a health or weight-loss “expert” tell you that all that matters when it comes to losing weight is counting calories (calories in versus calories out) the saying that counting calories are all that matters when it comes to weight loss, but that is wrong! Having fewer calories in and more calories out is one of the most popular methods of losing weight. What we must know is that it is not the only factor that comes into play.
Now let’s be clear, being in a caloric deficit is important if you want to lose weight. You cannot lose weight if you’re constantly eating a large caloric surplus, no matter how healthy the food is. However, having a caloric deficit is not the only thing that happens.
What is also important is for you to make sure you’re eating healthy. You see, achieving caloric deficit by sacrificing essential nutrients for your body will do more harm than good! You can have stomach problems, blood sugar issues, and even imbalances in your hormones.
Do you know what regulates metabolism which is key for effective weight loss?
It’s your hormones.
More specifically, the Thyroid Hormone (TH) is produced in the thyroid gland. Thus, you must be concerned about your body’s hormones.
This is why there are some people who work out more and eat less, but still cannot lose weight.
You see, hormones play a vital role in regulating your weight a lot more often than you can imagine. For example, the hormone Insulin is essential for carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism. Furthermore, they can dictate how much fat you burn to depend on the level of your physical activity and food intake.
The inverse of the situation earlier, when you have a good and functioning metabolism with the help of balanced hormones, you can more easily lose weight with just as much physical exercise and the right diet unlike those who do not watch over their hormone levels.
Hence, there are a lot of other things that come into play when it comes to weight loss and hormone levels are a central part of it. Counting calories will absolutely help you to lose weight, but it will only take you so far! In order to avoid plateaus, you must keep your hormones happy.
This New Year’s a very large portion of the population will set out to lose weight! The first thing they will do is exercise more and eat less. This may help one lose weight short-term (first week or two), but it actually causes weight gain long-term. WHY? Because it stresses the body! Stress tells our hormones to store more fat.
Losing and maintaining your body weight is very multifaceted, but once you understand it, it’s quite simple. So, if you’ve been struggling to lose weight you’re not alone! If you’re ready to learn, I’m happy to show you!
