Eating enough protein will not make you fatter! However, eating too much rice, pasta, white bread will get you bigger. Eating too much ice cream, cake, avocado and nuts, and another high/calorie food will surely make you gain those extra kilos. Eat too much chicken or fish and you will get rounder!
The logic is simple: eat much more than you spend as energy, and it will turn into fat. Yes, even eating fruits in excess can make you fat.
Our bodies turn those calories into a form that it can store for future use which is usually in form of fat which we can see in our bellies, thighs, and other parts of our bodies.
In comparison, protein is made up of amino acids which our body can use to build our muscles. This is why you often hear gym buddies raving on about how much protein there is in their shakes and how much protein they consume each meal.
WHY YOU NEED MORE PROTEIN:
Obviously, protein has a ton of benefits as it’s an integral part of our diet, but here are some of the most important ones:
If you often find yourself craving donuts, ice cream, and other sugary treats, then getting more protein is the right thing for you!
Protein helps balance our blood sugar levels and keeps our energy levels stable throughout the day. This helps you create more sensible decisions and avoid actions that’ll bite us back in the end!
In addition to cutting the amount of sweets in your diet, having enough protein keeps you feeling full for longer! This means that you’ll most likely eat less each meal and feel less hungry during mealtimes.
Feeling hungry all the time is all too familiar for us ladies wherein you feel that you can just devour everything in your pantry or order every snack we set our eyes on. As our energy levels are more stable, we’ll be less likely to eat impulsively
As mentioned before, protein allows us to burn more calories as unlike carbohydrates, our body can use them more easily rather than being reserved for fats.
Want to eat more food, but gain less fat? Then eat protein! It can boost your metabolism, allowing you to burn more calories, and have more energy to use!
The opposite is also true as having a slower metabolism means that the food that you eat will most likely be stored as fat (Yikes!). You will also have lower energy and motivation throughout the day.
Guess what your hair is made up of? Protein!
More specifically your hair shaft, or in other terms, your hair itself as it is made up of keratin. Hence, if you deprive your body of the protein it needs to give you those luxurious strands of hair, then you might even witness hair fall and duller hair.
It doesn’t stop there! Protein is also involved in giving your skin that firmness, so it doesn’t sag and also give you healthier nails.
Having healthy hair, skin and nails are all essential, especially for us ladies! So if you don’t want to speed up your aging, better get yourself loaded up on protein.
As we’ve mentioned many times in this article, protein can help your body regenerate your muscles after a workout. Having protein in your diet makes muscle growth and repair faster and better!
So if you want to get serious about a body transformation, ditch sugar cravings, look and feel better -supplement yourself with enough protein every day! 🙂
WHERE TO GET YOUR PROTEIN:
Vegans love to rave about how their beans, quinoa, and other green vegetable are the perfect alternatives to beef for protein. Now, these foods do contain protein, but they’re no match to the protein found in meat products. In fact, most of them contain more carbs than they do protein.
The best sources of protein that you may already know are those found near or in the meat section of your grocery store. This includes chicken eggs, beef, chicken, turkey, and even many types of fish!
Rabbit meat has twice the amount of amino acids, more protein, and less fat and cholesterol than beef and chicken, but they are hard to come by and it’s probably not according to your tastes as rabbits can be considered as pets. 🙂
Drinking protein shakes is also a good alternative if you want your protein source on the go.
Hence, now you know why you need protein and where you can easily get it. Now, it’s up to you to construct your meal plan and start getting the results!
