Built to help women have a 360° approach to health through perimenopause to post-menopause.
I’ve been in the health, wellness, and fitness industry for over 18 years and the REAL reason the fitness and weight loss industries are failing people to maintain long term weight loss is because…
They’re trying to fix a psychological issue with a nutrition or fitness solution!
Sustaining weight loss and progress in developing our bodies can be difficult. One month we may lose a couple of pounds, while in another month we gain several more. This pattern continues and often discourages a lot of people. It makes them think that no matter how much effort they put in, their weight is still going to bounce back.
This leads many of us to develop an unhealthy mindset. Discourages a lot of people from ever discovering their true potential. They start to ditch their diets. They start to stop going to the gym and start getting into bad physical and mental habits.
Now, is it impossible to sustainably lose weight and develop our logistics to its full potential? Of course not. There are a lot of people who can do that, especially with plenty of help from fitness coaches and dieticians However, they are the vast minority, and often they have access to resources that the majority of us do not.
So why is it that not only do people struggle to lose weight, but also struggle to sustain it for a long time?
The short answer would be the lack of consistency and commitment.
They either get to the end of their “diet” or “transformation programme” & slowly lapse back into their old habits…
Or they have repeated “screw it!” moments throughout the entire process.
They reach certain fitness goals such as a number of reps or a target weight and then they slowly crawl back to their old habits. This leads to them getting back to where they started.
The long answer would be that it’s because of several factors or different scenarios. Here are some of the scenarios that some of you may be familiar with:
The first one would be being a perfectionist. We’ve heard of this term before, but how does it apply to your diet and fitness? One can be a perfectionist in this aspect if one tend to count every single calorie that goes into their body. It can also be manifested by somebody who religiously follows a workout routine and feels like they have already failed if they miss just one session of it.
This leads to a lot of stress and pressure on the person. Suddenly reaching for their goals and working out doesn’t make them feel happy anymore. It just becomes something that they have to do or else they will end up blaming themselves and get stressed out.
Another scenario would be someone who doesn’t genuinely believe that they can be something better than what they are now. Sure, they still try to strive for these weight and fitness goals, but at the back of their heads, they do not believe that they are someone who is worthy of being praised for their achievements in their body. So, the moment they hit a plateau or someone gives them light criticism, they start thinking that there’s no point.
The last, but definitely not the least kind of scenario would be someone who analyses everything. These are the ones who can give up before they even started. How? Well, this is before they even start, they can start to ask themselves questions such as, “What if I don’t lose weight on time…what if there’s a better way… what if I get fat… what if I can’t stick to it… what if… what if… what if…?”
For many, all of these add up and lead to many bad habits. These bad habits often lead to people losing all the progress they’ve worked hard for. When they lose this progress. It reinforces the bad habits that caused it in the first place.
The bottom line, we must not let ourselves be overwhelmed or too stressed about losing weight and being fit. What matters more is consistency. Short bursts of energy and motivation will not lead us to where we want to go. Rather, having a balanced lifestyle and knowing when we are capable of performing at our best and when we are not would be more beneficial to our mental health.
In essence, if we want to make sure that the results we get about our fitness and health remain for a long time, we must also fix our mindset. Having a healthy body and a healthy mind is essential if you want to reach optimal health and we are here to help you achieve it, you can reach out and get in touch for private 1-1 sessions.
