Have you got what it takes to lose weight?
“I wish I had your discipline.” Have you caught yourself saying that to people you admire for their achievements? If you think along these lines and don’t believe the same success can come to you, perhaps it’s time to stop and think again.
No one is born disciplined.
We all only reach our goals by putting in hard work, often failing and trying again… and again. The people you look up to – the ones who are consistent with exercise and nutrition and have your dream body – all started in the same way as you.
Once you understand that you really are no different from the achievers, you will be ready to take on the challenges that come with losing weight.
Remember, it’s not been easy for them either. I have worked with countless people who had no idea where to start. They were actually scared to go to the gym. They didn’t always feel motivated and they made more mistakes than you can count.
Discipline – the only way to success
As hard it often seems, keeping consistent through discipline sets out the winners from the losers.
Winners are consistent, even when they don’t want to be and even when things get hard. This isn’t always easy when you feel that all you’ve been doing so far seems to be getting you nowhere!
Motivation comes and goes depending on how you feel each day but discipline goes a lot further. The fact that you don’t feel like doing something never stops you from actually doing it. Discipline is rooted in consistency, and it becomes part of who you are and what you do.
All very well, but how do we just “find” discipline?
Discipline is power
Many people think that discipline is a personality trait but in reality, it’s something you have to consciously work at to improve. It’s a skill and, just like any other skill, it requires ongoing practice to develop. Once you have discipline cracked, you’ll be well on your way to success.
Bear in mind that by continuing to self-talk with “I wish I had their discipline”’, you automatically lose your ability to change. This is because you give away your mental control and power to something that you believe is true.
This is sadly a great loss because you’re putting yourself in exactly the same position as when you started out.
I know that the ONLY thing stopping you from achieving your weight loss goal is negative self-talk. That’s you telling yourself you’re different in some way, or that you inherently lack the skills you need to succeed.
You were not dealt a bad set of cards. We are all part of the same book. The only difference is you’re on a different chapter.
