Built to help women have a 360° approach to health through perimenopause to post-menopause.
When I say, “trust your gut,” I really mean it—because more often than not, it’s right on the money. Even if it’s a little leaky, your gut instincts are powerful for a reason. This is why the gut is often referred to as the body’s “second brain.”
Now, I don’t mean to brag, but your gut is kind of a big deal. Think of it as the “It-Girl” of your gastrointestinal (GI) tract, the consummate host at the party that is your digestive system. It’s not just about digestion; your gut plays a starring role in your overall health and well-being.
Feeling inflamed, bloated, dealing with reflux, constipation, or gas? Maybe you’re battling brain fog, depression, or even navigating the rollercoaster of menopause? Whatever the case, what’s happening in your gut is likely having a huge impact on both your mental and physical health—and yes, that includes your menopause symptoms too.
A healthy gut is a key player in regulating several essential bodily functions:
Brain Function: Did you know that 90-95% of your serotonin and dopamine are produced in the small intestine? This means that a happy gut is directly linked to a happy brain and mood—something I’m all about!
Hormone Balance: An enzyme called Beta-Glucuronidase is found in the small intestine and plays a crucial role in detoxifying oestrogen from your system, helping you to eliminate it regularly. This is vital for maintaining hormone balance.
Healthy Skin: Think of your skin as a reflection of your gut turned inside out. Issues like acne, rosacea, psoriasis, eczema, or dandruff could be signs of bacterial imbalances or a leaky gut.
Happy Hormones: There’s a specific subset of gut bacteria called the estrobolome that helps your body detoxify oestrogens. When your gut is balanced, the estrobolome helps maintain proper oestrogen levels. However, an imbalance can lead to too much or too little oestrogen, making menopause symptoms even more challenging, and potentially increasing your risk of osteoporosis, obesity, and cardiovascular disease.
Body Fat Regulation: Your gut bacteria are key players in how your body stores fat, balances blood glucose levels, and responds to hormones that signal hunger or fullness. Wild, right?
Immune Function: With 70% of your lymph nodes lining the small intestines, a healthy gut is essential for supporting a robust immune system.
So, if your gut is telling you something, listen up! It’s doing more than just processing that last meal—it’s a powerhouse of health, affecting everything from your mood to your skin to how you navigate life’s big changes like menopause. Give it the attention it deserves, and it will reward you with better health and vitality.
