What’s the pattern you keep repeating that you wish you could change?
Here’s the thing about changing behaviours and habits: you don’t change them by simply trying to replace them with new ones.
Let’s say you want to eat better. You start the day with the best intentions, perfectly eating all day, but by evening, you end up eating large amounts of junk food. You try to change this habit by not having junk food in the house, but then you find yourself driving to the nearest store, a fast-food joint, or ordering from Uber Eats.
Next, you decide to prep all your food or subscribe to a meal delivery service. This works for a few days until you get bored of the meals. Whether you eat the prepared meals or not, you end up eating what you crave anyway.
You might even read a book like “Atomic Habits” and try to break down changes into small steps, but you still revert to your old ways.
Why are you stuck in this endless cycle? I have a model that may help you understand.
Where Does Identity Come From?
Habits and behaviours flow from our identities and beliefs. These need to change first. Something I work on with all my clients!
Our identity is made up of memories, experiences, personal relationships, values, and most importantly, the stories we tell ourselves about the world. It is a patchwork of factors that emerges from the depths of consciousness to create a sense of who we are.
The most critical aspect of identity is our stories. We write stories every second of every day and have been doing so since we were born. Stories about whether the world is safe or not, narratives about whether people are good or bad, trustworthy, or unreliable, capable.
These stories shape our sense of worth, intelligence, capability, and goodness. They determine how we show up in the world and what habits and behaviours we manifest.
Identity Restructuring
To truly change, we need to focus on remaking our identity, not just altering our behaviours and habits. Behaviours and habits are too superficial; they don’t reach deep enough.
Changing identity requires understanding the four layers of consciousness. Two of these layers you know well—ego consciousness and the unconscious. The traditional thought is that change must come from the unconscious, as habitual behaviours, and ways of thinking flow from there. But what programs the unconscious? This is where the other two layers come into play.
Think of it like an iceberg. Ego consciousness is the tip of the iceberg, the part above water that manifests in the real world. The bulk of the iceberg below the surface is the unconscious mind, which has far more control over your reality.
But if we want to change the iceberg (our identity), how do we do it? An iceberg melts fastest at the surface of the water. This zone, where the water meets the ice, is what I call creative consciousness. It’s the area of your psyche that is still engaged with the world, gathering evidence, and able to change. Creative consciousness is in contact with your old consciousness, but also with infinite possibilities for who you could become.
The area containing this infinite potential is called Source Consciousness. It’s analogous to what a quantum physicist might call “the field,” a new age thinker might call “the Universe,” or a religious person might call “God.” Carl Jung called it “collective consciousness.” Whatever you call it, to change for good, you need to get acquainted with it and use it.
Where Creative Consciousness meets Source Consciousness is where all major change occurs. You know what this feels like—when you’re in the shower and the solution to a problem suddenly appears, or when you’re thinking about someone, and they text or call. Synchronicities, serendipities, and signs? All are communications from Source Consciousness to Creative Consciousness.
The Three-Step Process
This is what you will learn in the Journey event. There is a three-step process to make this change happen:
1. Clear the old stories and traumas away.
2. Learn how to communicate with your creative self and Source.
3. Go out in the world and BE the thing (be it until you see it).
“BE THE PERSON TO GET THE THING!”
That’s what I will teach you in the Journey.
Any questions? Does this make sense? I would love to hear your stories related to Source and Creative Consciousness.
“YOU CAN´T CREATE THE LIFE OF A PERSON YOU DON´T YET SEE YOURSELF TO BE”
