In the realm of values that guide my life, integrity holds a place of utmost importance, both in business and on a personal level. Defined as “the quality of being honest,” integrity, to me, means living by the mantra, “I do what I say I will do.” I firmly believe that integrity is a cornerstone for achieving both success and happiness, not only in our interactions with others but, crucially, in our relationship with ourselves—a key ingredient for building confidence.
Commitments and promises are not made lightly; I don’t simply say “yes” to please others or avoid potential awkwardness. Whether it’s a personal fitness goal, a coffee meetup, or a commitment to business growth, when I declare it’s done, it truly is done. While I’ve encountered setbacks in achieving some goals, I remain sincere in my efforts and, when necessary, adjust my objectives or timelines.
Life sometimes throws unforeseen challenges requiring last-minute changes, but I strive to handle these situations with sincerity, apology, and respect for others’ time. My personal policy? No B.S. excuses.
Maintaining personal integrity teaches you to trust and believe in yourself, enabling you to make things happen. You become dependable, decisive, and free from the flakiness that erodes confidence and self-worth.
Conversely, consistently cancelling plans or reneging on commitments reflects poorly on honesty and reliability.
My advice? Have the courage to be honest and assertive. If you’re not interested or can’t commit, say so upfront instead of backing out at the last minute. Whether it’s a health goal, a new program, a meeting, or a call, show up and honour your word.
Fear of judgment often leads people to make commitments they can’t keep, but the damage to your reputation from being unreliable far outweighs any potential judgment for boldness and decisiveness.
The real harm lies in the silent damage to your integrity and self-respect, perpetuating a cycle of disbelief in yourself and faltering follow-through. Cultivate the habit of staying true to your word, making exceptions only when genuinely necessary. The more personal integrity you practice, the more confident, decisive, and successful you’ll become.
In your journey to becoming a better human, elevate your standards and consistently deliver. Be nice, be polite, be kind, be honest, and always remember to say hello. These principles are the foundation of a fulfilling and successful life, serving as daily reminders to strive for personal integrity and contribute positively to the world around you.
