Built to help women have a 360° approach to health through perimenopause to post-menopause.
A recent survey has shown that a majority of women have poor body image about themselves with the recent Covid-19 lockdowns aggravating it even more. They feel that not only are their body types not represented in media, but they also feel negative about their own body image most of the time.
If you can relate to the feelings described above, then worry not because you are not alone!
This study has shown that a majority of the respondents or 6 out of 10 women feel negative about their own body image. There are also countless other studies out there detailing how women around the world regardless of nationality or age tend to have negative feelings about their bodies.
It’s okay to not like certain parts of yourself because after all this discontent can push us towards a better version of ourselves, but loathing your own body for the sake of being skinny is NOT okay. Hating on yourself is one of the most counterproductive things you can do for the sake of weight loss!
Why? Well, there are tons of negative effects that you push onto yourself when you start to fill yourself with self-hatred regarding your weight. It can severely affect your physical, mental, and emotional health. People with self-hatred about their own weight also tend to be more likely to adopt bad eating habits which leads them to a downwards spiral of weight gain and negative emotions.
With all these in mind, you need to ask yourself the following questions:
• Am I overanalyzing every single imperfection in my body?
• Am I too obsessed with losing weight?
• How often do I look into the mirror and compare myself with others?
• Do I become sad whenever I see my body in the mirror?
• Am I willing to do drastic actions to change my body?
• What is the source of my motivation for losing weight?
Reflect on yourself for a while about these questions. If you feel like you identify with a lot of them, then perhaps it’s time for you to change how you view weight loss. Weight loss needs to come from a willingness to be better and put in the effort to achieve certain milestones not from hating yourself.
If you don’t change your relationship with your body image and weight loss, then not only your physical health but also your mental health will be affected severely.
Don’t let your weight loss journey be dictated by fear and hatred over your body. 99% of the clients I work with are motivated by FEAR = I don’t like my body and I want you to help me change it. 99% of these clients think that they will be happy when their body changes and 99% of those that do change their body still wouldn’t be happy if we didn’t do the work required.
